Good times and good news!

I feel like I blacked out and went into a time warp and suddenly it is Wednesday.  Canada Day on a Tuesday really threw me off my game. We ended up going to Josh’s cottage for the weekend and the weather was perfection.

Not a bad morning view.

On Saturday morning the doggies woke us up around 7am (jerks) so we played with them outside for a bit (Winslow is a straight up fishy in the lake) and then we headed to the infamous Shed Market. I found some sweet books for little Ayla (50 cents for all 4, boom) and the best record of all time (25 cents, double boom).  Then I somehow convinced myself to run 14k in the scorching heat on hilly country roads. I didn’t feel great about it. Until I got to jump in the lake when I was done. That counts as a shower, right?

These are a few of my favourite things (…see what I did there?)

We headed home on Sunday evening since Josh and I both had to work on Monday, which was kind of a bummer. It was an easy day of work, which was nice, because when it was done my fave ladies and I got to lay poolside with some delightful food and wine.

This wine is my jam (you can only get it online or at the vineyard) and if anyone wanted to send me a case I would be okay with that.

We may or may not have walked a couple miles for DQ Blizzards after this too… what? It was Canada’s birthday, and it would be rude not to celebrate.

Now onto two super exciting pieces of news.

1. I JUST GOT TO DO MY FIRST TEMPO RUN IN MONTHS! Phaedra said no tempo runs until my legs hadn’t spazzed out for 5-6 weeks or something. They have totally been cooperating (provided I give ample rest between runs), and so today I actually got to do speedwork!  I usually aim for 4:45/km for my tempos (7:39/mile), so I was pretty pumped when I managed to swing the following after months of no speed or hills or anything fun:

  • 2k warm up @ 6:07/km average
  • 4k tempo @ 4:37/4:51/4:33/4:40
  • 1k cool down @ 6:20

BOOM. Happy runner over here.

2. The university I went to (the University of Guelph) got a badass new statue and it looks like it is STRAIGHT out of Harry Potter. It is supposed to be the school mascot, a Gryphon (hello, Gryffindor), but I think it is straight up Buckbeak.

Happy almost weekend!!

  1. Your face in that picture. I can’t even deal. Dead.
Sooooo happy you had a great tempo with NO PAIN! That also calls for a DQ blizzard. Just sayin.

    • Danielle says:

Man, you always know exactly what’s up. When is it not an occasion for a DQ blizzard, really…

  2. I went to Guelph too!!!

  1. […] felt like poop at the start of this run and somehow it turned out to be a better tempo than last week. Who woulda thought. I missed tempos so much! (Loser […]
