Time flies when you’re having fun!

That got a bit crazy.

My office and my home are both officially moved and (just about) settled. Christmas craziness is over and we are getting ready to head into the new year. These reflection/goal setting posts likely become a bit of a broken record for people, but it’s something I really like to take the time to do. A year goes by SO FAST and I find it important for myself to reflect on all of the things that lit up my life and made it so special. Time flies because I’m having fun! RIGHT? Right.

Last year, I made a point to keep my goals smaller. I simply wanted to stay active, and run a 1:45 half marathon before the year end. Of course I managed to stay active (my 5 year runniversary is coming up in February!) and I hit that DAMN 1:45 GOAL in November, regardless of all the injuries I dealt with this year. I didn’t run too many races this year– but I also managed to PR in the 10k by a few seconds, with a 47:51 time.

In addition to my running achievements, I feel like I have finally found a balanced and comfortable way of eating. I eat fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season, with some proteins and fats, and I think nothing more of it. I just eat. In recent months, Grand River Organics has really helped me to make this shift simple. I get a bag of local, organic produce every Thursday, I don’t really know what I am going to get, and I eat it.  Life is so much happier when you know you are nourishing your body without over thinking, or feeling like you are making sacrifices. Aka. I get to eat 1 million potatoes and feel really good about it. If you are in their delivery area, I 100% recommend it!

One of my absolute favourite parts of 2014 was my trip to Vancouver for SeaWheeze! Each year I get closer and closer with my favourite internet friends, and I feel so lucky to have them– I also 100% recommend internet friend-dating. You find the best friends on the internet.

Last but not least, the most exciting thing to happen in 2014, which will carry all the way through 2015 as well!

I’m not about to get all mush-mush on you, but after 7 years of Josh n’ Dan we finally get to become even more of a family but signing some papers and drinking a bunch of booze with all our best friends (and our doggies). Just a wee bit excited about that! Only 184 days to go…

Maybe I should buy a dress.

And book a caterer.

The things I wanna do:

  • Run a SUB 1:45 half marathon. Okay so technically I would only need to shave 19 seconds. So maybe we should go bigger here. I’m gonna say 1:42:xx. Totally doable!
  • Run another full marathon. I ran a full marathon once– my training was MINIMAL. Like really minimal. I ran a 4:35 by running REALLY comfortably. I wasn’t even sore the next day. True story. I would like to PROPERLY train for a full, and see how fast I can really run it. I’m aiming for Ottawa at the end of May, but that is 6 weeks before our wedding, so that could change. But it’s going down before 2016. I need a benchmark so I can see how reasonable or unreasonable my lifetime Boston goal is.
  • PR in the 10k. I ran the first 10k in the Hamilton half marathon in the same time as my current PR. That tells me there is no reason I can’t smash that bad boy this year!
  • Stay injury free! (aka. see my practitioners regularly and DO MY PHYSIO EXERCISES. Claire, I’m looking at you).
  • Start working towards building the career I have always wanted. I won’t say too much about this for a while, but I will likely be going back to school for a year to get going. I am really lucky to have an amazing and supportive boss who is ready to help me make this happen, while I keep my current job.
  • Be a better blogger. I’ll never be a once a day blogger, but I would like to take better pictures and make more time for it, because I really do love it!
  • Throw a really fun wedding!
  • Go somewhere awesome on our honeymoon! Josh and I have never been on a trip alone together, so I am really looking forward to that after all of the craziness subsides in July.

That’s about it!

Happy New Year friends!

That time I got completely surprised

First, thanks to everyone for your nice comments on my last post. Everyone is hanging in there!

It’s been super busy over the last couple of weeks so I figure it is time for..

Just kidding, it’s random list time. But I have that song in my head.

Okay, let’s do it! (In no particular order. I’m all over the place, actually).

1. I got into SeaWheeze 2015!!!!!!! It sold out in 18 minutes apparently. (WHAT?)

2. Last week was my birthday week which resulted in a week of poor choices. Or excellent choices, depending on how you look at it.

3. Ever since I tried it at Heirloom in Vancouver, I CANNOT STOP eating avocado toast. Cannot stop. It hits the same spot as grilled cheese without being grilled cheese. SERIOUSLY.

Side story: When Josh was little he thought it was called “GIRL cheese” instead of “GRILLED cheese” and he thought they were just for girls.  He kept telling himself he had better stop eating them soon or someone was going to make fun of him…but they were just so tasty. HAHAH poor baby Josh.

4. My baby niece Ayla is turning ONE tomorrow!!!! It was so nice of her to take the time out of her busy day on Friday to make this for me.

5. My birthday continued…

6. …and continued.

So for my birthday dinner (the one on my ACTUAL birthday– Friday the 12th) we went to The Keg and I got all of my favourite things…pecan goat cheese sirloin! Billy Minor Pie! Twice baked potato!

….sorry if you thought I was vegan. #woops.

7. I just did a tempo run and ew.

8. On Saturday morning I went for a lovely lunch with some of my most favourite people (internet friends, obviously). Christina, Ang, Jess and I met up at Rawlicious Kitchener for some eats.

These tacos were delicious but they were $16 and kept me full for approx. 20 mins…so there’s that.

We chatted for a few hours and then parted ways for the weekend….or so I thought.

9. The next time I saw these ladies, it went like this:

(Video cred to Christina!)

Hahah!! My friend Claire had SOOO sneakily planned a surprise party for me and invited these ladies and my sisters over to her house for the big surprise.  I was sooooo completely confused as to what was going on.

I had SO MUCH FUN. I can’t believe what amazing friends I have made over the last couple years– especially considering most of them are from the internet, HAH. So thankful. Warm fuzzies for days. Legit.

10. Naturally, Claire, Christina, and I took the opportunity to bust out our matching hoodies for a photo shoot.

We are adorable.

I think this sums up the past week!

Talk soon!
