It’s better to have loved and lost

If you aren’t a dog person…you can go ahead and x this window because you just won’t get this!

My intention today was to write a random list blog post like I so often do. I attempt to be at least a tiny bit humorous, but today I can’t bring myself to do it. Here’s why.

When I was in the 10th grade, I remember all of my sisters and I taking the day off school to go pick up our new 8-week old German Shepherd puppy. He had the biggest paws, bologna breath, and an appetite for my Wendy’s chicken burger from the first ride home.

After MUCH deliberation, we named him Houston (no, we do not have a problem, but thank you for the concern) and he was the cutest puppy of all the puppies.

He curled up on the bottom stair for a nap in those early days, and a few short months later he couldn’t figure out when the stair got so freaking tiny?

When I brought Lemon home, she quickly took a liking to Houston. When it came to play time, she preferred to grab a hold of his tail and go for a little ski ride over a regular game of tug. Just a mention of his name to Lemon will prompt the best tilt of all the head tilts. It’s always the secret weapon for her best photos!

This week, Houston’s health had taken a turn for the worst after a steady decline for some time now, and this morning, my family had to make the tough decision to let him go.

We are all heartbroken, but we are most certainly thankful for the long and happy life we were able to share with him, our big furry teddy bear.

We love and miss you, our baby boy!
