#FuelYourBetter: Vega Sport Performance Protein Review (and my new hair!)

Hi!!

Hope everyone had a great week! I am soooo happy it’s Friday. I was so tired that I fell asleep on the physio table today while I was full of acupuncture needles, hah. Yesterday ending up being an impromptu day off of workouts. I had my hair done in the morning before work, and had to run some top secret bachelorette errands with my friend after work!

New hair! …not that different. Just some extra blonde and a trim.

Five hours of sleep later, I at least convinced myself to get up and run. ONLY because I wanted to try my new shoes! I got these babies on sale at Sporting Life for $50!

They are the New Balance Minimus zero drop trail shoe. I’ve always wanted a pair of these and I love sales, sooo…

Moving on!

A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity through FitApproach and Vega to try out the Vega Sport Performance Protein. I have tried the VegaOne protein before, and I love it (in chocolate), but it does not agree with my stomach at all, so I stopped using it. I was excited to try this one and see if it was any different.

I received the vanilla flavour, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it came in a little box with individually wrapped servings of protein powder.

It arrived just in time for my trip to the Azores! …but I totally blew it and forgot to pack it. Classic Dan. I tested this protein out in my morning protein shake, as well as once as an emergency snack just mixed in water. Here’s what I found:

Pros:

  • Tastes good! (Surprisingly good, actually).
  • Didn’t bother my stomach! The VegaOne contains a ton of inulin to increase the fibre count, but inulin and my body don’t mix. It basically makes my stomach bloat like crazy and make all kinds of scary noises. This Vega Sport Performance Protein contains no inulin! Hooray!
  • The pre-packaged servings are great for travel and to keep in your bags/at work
  • 25g of protein and only 2.7g of sugar
  • Dairy-free (obviously), which is also nice on some tummies

Cons

  • It smells funny. The taste makes up for it, but be warned, first timers!
  • It’s a bit gritty on the tongue, which I don’t mind, but it might bother some people.
  • Simply mixed with water, it does not have the best taste, and it stays a bit chunky.
Leave it to me to turn my vanilla protein into a chocolate shake, HAH.

Overall, I would totally buy this product again for the packaging alone! But I would most definitely get the chocolate flavour because that is my JAM. I’m happy to know that it doesn’t bother my stomach like the VegaOne, so I will definitely consider this for my next tub of protein (…when my current 5 tubs run out…#meatheadstatus).

I hope you have a great weekend full of ACTIVITIES!

Do you have a favourite Vega product?

Talk soon,

Have you tried the dymatize ISO-100 hydrolyzed whey? I have trouble digesting some protein powders too but have no issues with this one since it has the lactose removed — Also mixes great and all flavours I’ve tried so far are amaze! Just another one to keep in mind 🙂

I haven’t tried it, but I’ve heard about it! Thanks for the tip! I use About Time which is also lactose free and doesn’t bother my tummy. The Mocha Mint flavour is my JAM haha
