Sweat & Doughnuts

So we are back at the cottage already! It is a bit cold today. Hibernating under blankets currently, hah. We left last night right after I instructed a bootcamp in the arctic. On the way there we picked up our friends in Toronto who brought these…

Yeah. YEAH.

Those are REAL LIFE DONUTS. I prefer to call them dodies. Only my sisters will understand that, hah. It’s just what we called them as kids. ANYWAY, I have never ever had a real life fresh, gourmet donut. I’ve only ever had the ones from Tim Horton’s which I believe are baked from frozen. Our friends picked up a dozen of these badboys from Glory Hole in Toronto (HAH, hilarious name). They grabbed 1 of each flavour. We decided to cut each one up so we could have a taste of each (there are 6 of us). This is the damage so far…

The ones we have tried so far are:

  • Mocha Almond Fudge (shizz was FULL OF CHOCOLATE CREAM)
  • PB & J (need I say more?)
  • S’mores
  • Blood Orange
  • Salted Caramel & Spicy Pecan
  • Rum Raisin Twist
  • Cinnamon Sugar
  • A plain-ish glazed one with Captain Crunch Cereal on it (WHAT THEEE?)

The ones we have left are:

  • Stuffing (the one with bacon on it, haha)
  • Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate
  • Bread & Butter
  • Hmmm I think Vanilla Bean perhaps? Not sure what it is. Probably just general delight flavour.

Okay that was way too much detail about doughnuts. I need help.

The good news is, I managed to burn off some of these pillowy angels with a nice little cottage-side workout. It went like this:

Warm-up

  • 3 minutes suicides

Circuit 1:

  • Assisted pull ups x 10 (see below for my sweet pull-up station set-up)
  • Push-ups  x 20
  • V-up crunches x 15
  • Mountain climbers x 1 minute

*Repeat twice for a total of 3 rounds

Pull-up station! (Knee goes in the strength band)

Circuit 2:

  • Push-ups x 20
  • Bicycle crunches x 40
  • Burpees x 15

*Repeat twice for a total of 3 rounds

Circuit 3:

  • Spiderman push-ups x 20
  • 5 broad jumps, back peddle x 3

*Repeat twice for a total of 3 rounds

Finish with 3 minutes of suicides.

BAMMM, over 550 calories burned in a measly 45 minutes. It only cost me approximately 453 mosquito bites. Which happen to swell like welts on me, so I just look like I have growths all over my body.

I refuelled with a chicken wrap on an ezekiel tortilla with roasted red pepper hummus, broccoli slaw and hot sauce. It was SO GOOD.

Gonna have this again this weekend for sure!

  1. Those donuts look incredible!! Totally worth however much butter, sugar and white flour are in there. I have never been a big donut fan, but that is mostly because I have only have the crappy Timmies ones. I am so sick of this weather too, I am crossing my fingers for a good day on June 12!!

    PS – We have a pull up bar at home (a door way one), do you think I could tie a resistance band onto it with a knot to do assisted pull-ups?

  3. i live in toronto and have yet to try those donuts. my friend however, is OBSESSED with them and they even call her when they have a fresh batch of her favorite flavor (salty caramel or something like that).
