Clean Snickerdoodles. YUP.

One of my most favourite cookies around the holidays (or any day…) are snickerdoodles. Once I tried someone’s recipe for clean snickerdoodles and it basically tasted like low-fat cinnamon loaf in the shape of a cookie. FAIL. I decided to take this serious matter into my own hands. I won.

…my sad attempt at a fancy blog photo.

Clean Snickerdoodles

Makes 6 cookies

  • 2 tbsp Earth Balance Spread (I only had coconut flavour and it worked FAB!)
  • 3 tbsp xylitol (I find xylitol very very sweet, and I LOVE sweets…so you can cut this down easily)
  • 1/2 tbsp liquid egg whites (I would have preferred to include yolk in the 1/2 tbsp but we are out of whole eggs!)
  • 1/2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tbsp whole wheat PASTRY flour (Bulk Barn)
  • 1/8 tsp baking soda
  • teeny tiny pinch of salt
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar (key for that snickerdoodle flavour!)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp xylitol for topping

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
  2. In a small bowl combine Earth Balance, xylitol, egg and coconut oil. Mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar. Mix well.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until combined well.
  5. In a small bowl or measuring cup, mix remaining xylitol and cinnamon for topping.
  6. Using your palms, roll dough into 1″ balls and dip into xylitol/cinnamon mixture. Roll the ball around until it is well coated.
  7. Place balls on lined cookie sheet and spread out evenly. Press the balls down slightly if you prefer a flatter cookie (I didn’t do this).
  8. Bake for 10 minutes, remove, let cool, and enjoy!

Sugar isn’t listed because it is essentially 0, and saturated fat is high but remember it is coconut oil aka. GOOD FAT!

How do these measure up to the real deal? Really well!! They have a slightly more cake-y consistency compared to the doughy consistency of regular snickerdoodles, but they definitely have the same flavour and will CRUSH a snickerdoodle craving. Though I may be the only one who gets those…

Happy Holiday Baking!!!
